9-12-09: Wilderness Road State Park hosted a Community
Appreciation Open House offering a free hotdog lunch and day full of
fun and activities. The award-winning Lee High School band, Thomas
Walker High School JROTC and guest Speaker Tom Cervenak were
featured during opening ceremonies with the event showcasing the
park’s historical and nature activities as well as a scavenger hunt
using GPS (Global Positioning System) units. Critters in the Creek,
Our Feathered Friends, Karen the Clown, the Indian Ridge tree hike
and Raggedy Ann's storytelling were all a huge hit with the crowd.
An evening frontier battle at Historic Martin’s Station concluded
the activities with more than 300 visitors enjoying this event free
of all charges, including the free hotdog lunch.
11-1-09:
Pumpkins in the Park proved to be a HUGE success, far exceeding the
expectations of the park. Despite a steady shower throughout the
day, more than 1,400 visitors participated in the inaugural event
with over 1,200 tickets handed out for the Haunted Trail Hayride,
which featured 12 scenes and many frights in between. Plans are
already underway for next year's event, with new added twists to be
added to the hayride!
12-6-09: Santa
in the Wilderness was well attended with more than 100 children
visiting with Santa Claus at the park. Each child received a small
gift from Santa's bag, courtesy of Ms Claus, and many photos were
taken with the Jolly Ol' Elf. Plans are already underway for next
year, including inviting Santa to set up at the Karlan Mansion for a
Victorian-style Christmas event.
3-7-10: GPS
Adventures: Amazing Race received great response with participants
touring the park, searching for clues to a hidden treasure cache.
The success of the event has led to the park agreeing to create
another Amazing Race, tentatively set for July 17, which will be
even more in-depth than this one!
3-10-10: Plans
are being finalized for the second annual Easter at Karlan
celebration. The Easter Bunny returns to highlight the candy-filled
Easter Egg hunt. Remember to register your child soon for a day of
fun, games and prizes!
